The U.S. government’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program just got a major overhaul - and it’s a game-changer for wireless broadband providers. With $42.45 billion in federal funding available, the program now officially supports fixed wireless, hybrid, LTE/5G, satellite and microwave networks that meet updated performance benchmarks.
Announced in June 2025, BEAD Restructuring Policy Notice removes the fiber-only preference that previously shut out many efficient wireless technologies. Now, projects delivering at least 100 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload, and latency under 100 milliseconds qualify as Priority Broadband Projects - whether they rely on fiber, wireless, or a mix of both.
Even more significantly, every state is now required to reopen its BEAD application process. Past provisional awards have been rescinded, and the new rules reduce much of the previous red tape. That means if you didn’t qualify before - or didn’t apply because fiber was out of reach - this is your opportunity.
At SAF Tehnika, we’ve long supported network builders who need fast, affordable deployments in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Our radios are built for both licensed and unlicensed wireless networks, offering high capacity, low latency, and reliability that meets (and exceeds) BEAD standards. Products like Integra-X2 deliver up to 2.2 Gbps full duplex - ideal for both middle-mile and last-mile use cases. Combined with fast deployment times and low per-location cost, SAF-based networks are a strong fit for this new round of funding.
Whether you’re building out rural schools, tribal clinics, farms, or small communities, SAF Tehnika equipment can help you meet your technical goals while qualifying for federal funding. We also provide technical support and documentation, including path calculations and latency reports - all designed to strengthen your application and simplify compliance.
To take advantage of the updated BEAD program, start by reviewing your state broadband office’s website. New subgrant windows will open soon - all states must act by September. Design a solution that balances speed, cost-efficiency, and scalability, and don’t forget to prepare a low-cost broadband plan for eligible households.
BEAD covers up to 75% of project costs. The remaining 25% can come from in-kind contributions, including equipment, labor and services. SAF can assist you in aligning your plan with the funding model, ensuring both performance and compliance.
If you’ve been waiting for the right time to get involved, this is your moment. The new BEAD rules remove old limitations and open the door to wireless innovation. Let SAF Tehnika help you seize the opportunity - with radios ready for deployment, expert support, and experience powering networks where fiber can’t reach.
