SAF Tehnika's history began with the founder's university studies at Riga Polytechnic Institute, now Riga Technical University. The name "SAF Tehnika" was borrowed from a subject taught there, focusing on waveguides and high frequencies.
In the 1980s, the founder's interest in satellite TV receivers emerged due to the lack of Western connections in Latvia. The company's first devices were created to receive Western TV signals using Soviet components. As the business evolved, they transitioned to two-way communication, developing transmitters and telephone extensions. The company officially started in the early 1990s, initially focusing on telephone connections.
Later, we expanded into manufacturing communication devices, including radios compliant with European standards. Notably, they were the first to introduce certain technological advancements, such as the full outdoor unit and affordable radio technology. Over the years, SAF Tehnika has been at the forefront of technological advancement and has made things an industry standard.
